Newsletter: Yeshua in Context

THE FOLLOWING IS A NEWSLETTER I SENT OUT TODAY TO MY YESHUA IN CONTEXT LIST. If you’d like to be on the list, email me at yeshuaincontext at gmail. . .

I was just reading N.T. Wright yesterday saying that if Protestant Christians had made the gospels more central, many errors in theology could have been avoided that have hurt the effectiveness of churches for centuries. He says, on page 24 of his book Justification:

If Reformation tradition had treated the Gospels as equally important to the Epistles, this mistake might never have happened.

It is long past time that ordinary Yeshua-followers absorbed the meaning of Yeshua’s teaching, his life, his mysteriously hinted at identity, and his aims which become clear when the whole of his example and words are considered. His aims should be our aims. That is what Paul meant when he said the word gospel. Paul’s message has been misunderstood for too long, resulting in terribly shallow disciples, because people have separated Paul from his master, Yeshua. Those who heard him in person would never have made that mistake.

YeshuaInContext.com has a number of free resources to help you. Whether you are a beginner at Gospel study or have been working at it for a long time and frustrated with a lack of readily accessible information, I created this website to make the task easier and help people make the life and message of Yeshua more central. I believe great things will result when large numbers of people in the world do that.

As G.K. Chesterton once said, it is not that the life Jesus taught has been tried and found wanting, but that it hasn’t been tried.

We are planning some seminars for leaders of churches and synagogues in 2011 (The Yeshua Seminar: Recovering the Historical Jesus). Our tagline is, “The Jewish Jesus is the best antidote to the decay of Jesus faith in our generation.” Perhaps you would like to sponsor your pastor, rabbi, leader, seminary student, or congregational staff person to come and get an in-depth workshop on the life of Yeshua and how to study the gospels. More announcements coming soon.

Also, I’d love to come and speak at your church or for your small group or synagogue. Let me know if you’d like to work out an engagement.
