Certain verses from the Hebrew Bible get used over and over in the gospels as testimonies about Yeshua. It is a modernist assumption that the prophets “saw” Yeshua and “spoke” about him. First century Jewish ideas about God’s hand in history and echoes in the sacred texts about momentous events in God’s plan were much looser and less mathematical than many prophecy-must-be-fulfilled interpreters seem to realize.
It is a good bet that these Hebrew testimonies circulated orally. The Yeshua movement, initially Jewish in makeup, through its continual listening to the scriptures being read in synagogue, found testimonies to Yeshua in the Hebrew Bible. Many of these assumed a sort of popularity and are reflected in the gospels. Read which ones made it through here at the Yeshua in Context blog.
